The Maasai Mara National Reserve is 270 km from Nairobi, a five hour drive or 45 min by air. For a full package of scenery, game and the ultimate bush experience, the Mara is the place to be. Itinerary:

Day1: Arrival - Nairobi City
On arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, via Dakar, Senegal, you will be met by our tour manager who will brief you on your safari before you transfer to your hotel in Nairobi City for dinner and overnight stay in readiness for the next days trip. Dinner and Overnight at Serena Hotel in Nairobi or Hilton Hotel.

Day 2: Nairobi - Maasai Mara
After breakfast we will pick you up from your hotel, and depart for Maasai Mara game reserve, which is commonly known for the 'big five'. It takes about five hours to get there via Narok the only Maasai town. Arrive in time for lunch, then embark on an afternoon game drive. Dinner and overnight at Mara Sopa Lodge, Siana Springs Intrepid Tented camp or similar.

The Maasai Mara National Reserve as one of the most popular tourist destinations in Kenya covers an area of over 1,500 sq. km. it is located in the Great Rift valley in an open primarily grassland where wildlife tends to be most concentrated on the reserves western escarpment. The swampy land provides more access to water and less access to tourists. The Eastern end is closest to Nairobi and hence easier to access by tourists.

Day 3: Maasai Mara
Pre-breakfast morning game drive which gives you the chance to see animals hunting, thereafter back to the lodge for lunch.

Take the opportunity to fly over the Mara in a Hot air Balloon provided at an extra cost. The balloon package includes a champagne breakfast in the wild! In The Maasai Mara, there have been some 95 species of mammals, amphibians and reptiles and over 400 birds species recorded on the Maasai Mara Reserve. Day 4: Maasai Mara – Lake Nakuru National Park
Early morning Game viewing drives before breakfast thereafter proceed to Lake Nakuru National park. Lunch will be served en route. On arrival you will have an afternoon game viewing drive before dusk. Dinner and Overnight at Lion Hill Lake Nakuru Lodge.

Day 5: Lake Nakuru - Nairobi - Departure
Pre breakfast game viewing drive. After late breakfast proceed with game viewing drives till lunch time. After lunch check out and have an en-route game drive as you depart for Nairobi arriving in time for a complimentary dinner at the famous Carnivore restaurant a heaven for sumptuous African dishes. Transfer to airport for your connecting flight for the next destination.

Presidential Heritage and Kogelo Community Visit in Kenya – 5 Days / 4 Nights

Tour Highlights; This tour starts from Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport This is a five days trip which takes you to the community of Nyang’oma Kogelo village where the father of the USA president Barack Obama’s father was born and bread. You will be able to visit the local Ngiya market, pass through the equator line at Maseno and visit the local Kogelo dispensary, Kogelo market and Senator Barack Obama secondary school just behind the home. In addition to this trip, you will also visit, time allowing the Siaya town, Dominion Farm, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Mausoleum and Kit Mikaye. You will also visit the local villages in the surrounding.

Itinerary:

Day1: Arrival - Nairobi City

Day 2: Nairobi - Kisumu City - Kogelo - Kisumu
Early morning at 5 am, you will be transferred to Jomo Kenyatta international airport for your flight to Kisumu City. On arrival at Kisumu city,you will check in at Sunset hotel or Kisumu Hotel before you start your trip to Kogelo. Time allowing, you may be taken for a Kisumu City tour as you proceed to Kogelo. You will then proceed to Kogelo through Kisumu Busia road. You will then reach Maseno University gates and proceed just 150 meters from the Maseno University gates to the Equator Line Point. After a photographic session on the Equator line, you will proceed to Luanda town then, you will divert to the left heading straight to Ngiya market. If you arrive on a Tuesday, then you will be lucky to have a glimpse of the market day at Ngiya. You then proceed and divert onto the left just before you reach Mbeji Academy onto the murram road. You will then take about 15 minutes before you arrive at the Kogelo Dispensary on your right. Proceed to Sarah Obama's homestead.

Kogelo is a typical Kenyan rural village with most residents living modestly by small-scale farming. The village has a primary school - Senator Obama Primary School and a high school -Senator Obama Secondary School. The land for both schools was donated by Barack Obama, Sr., a native of the village and they were renamed after his son and then US senator Barack Obama in 2006. There is also a health centre. The village has a shopping centre with shops and a bar. Previously the village had no electricity, but it was connected to the power network immediately after the 2008 US presidential election. All meals and overnights at Imperial hotel, Sunset hotel or Kisumu hotel.

You will have a days stay within the homestead chatting with granny Sarah and the community leaders. Lunch will be served at the homestead. You will then disembark to Kisumu city for Dinner and Overnight. Dinner and overnight at Imperial hotel Sunset hotel or Kisumu hotel.

Day 3: Kisumu City-Kogelo village
You will depart Kisumu in the morning after breakfast at your residence and head through Kisumu Busia road. You will then reach Maseno University gates and proceed just 150 meters from the Maseno University gates to the Equator Line Point. After a photographic session on the Equator line, you will proceed to Luanda town then, you will divert to the left heading straight to Ngiya market. If you arrive on a Tuesday, then you will be lucky to have a glimpse of the market day at Ngiya. You then proceed and divert onto the left just before you reach Mbeji Academy onto the Murram road. You will then take about 15 minutes before you arrive at the Kogelo Dispensary on your right. After a visit of the dispensary proceed to the Kogelo market, Kogelo Primary School and Senator Barack Obama Secondary School. You will then enter Sarah Obama’s home behind the secondary school.

Kogelo is the ancestral home of Barack Obama, Sr., the father of current United States President-elect Barack Obama. Barack Obama, Sr. is buried in the village. Some of their family members, including his paternal grandmother Sarah Anyango Obama, still live in the home.In the home, Sarah Obama’s home; you will find both the grave sites for Barack Obama Sr. and his father’s. you will also find in the homestead Sarah’s house, the security tents, visit the vegetable garden, the cattle Boma and sit under the big mango trees where Sarah usually have interviews with visitors.
After the visit, you will proceed to Siaya town and then back to Kisumu city for dinner and overnight at your hotel.

(Alternatively, you may decide to spend a night in a rural homestead or a modern homestead along the Lake Victoria. Lunch will be served at the homestead, dinner and overnight either in Kisumu city or a homestead). Dinner and overnight at Imperial hotel Sunset hotel or Kisumu hotel / Homestead.

Day 4: Kisumu City - Siaya - Kogelo village (Cultural Tourism) - Kisumu City - Nairobi
After morning breakfast, you will depart for Siaya in Alego where you will be taken to the local homesteads where you will experience the cultural dances, Nyatiti traditional music, Ohangla playing and the local community market. You will also visit the local dispensary and the local market at Kogelo You will then proceed, time allowing into the local secondary and primary schools where you may donate you educational books if any. You will then drive back to Kisumu at the end of the day and proceed to the Kisumu International Airport for your evening departure flights to Nairobi City arriving in the late evening. Dinner and overnight at Serena Hotel in Nairobi.

Day 5: Nairobi - Departure
This day you will be at leisure in Nairobi ready to depart as per your scheduled departure flight. Time allowing, you will be taken for Nairobi city tour. You will be treated to a Complimentary lunch or dinner at the Carnivore restaurant on your way to the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for departure.

Nairobi National Park is one of the most successful of Kenya's rhino sanctuaries that is already generating a stock for reintroduction in the species former range and other upcoming sanctuaries. Due to this success, it is one of the few parks where a visitor can be certain of seeing a black rhino in its natural habitat. To the south of the park is the Athi-Kapiti Plains and Kitengela Migration and dispersal area. These are vital areas for herbivores dispersal during the rains and concentrate in the park in the dry season. Dinner and overnight at Fairview Hotel.

Day 3: Nairobi - Maasai Mara

After lunch proceed for an afternoon game drive in the park, which has some rare animals like white rhinos and Rothschild giraffes. Dinner and overnight at Lake Nakuru lodge or similar.

Day 6: Nakuru
Spend the day sight seeing and engaging in morning and afternoon game drives coupled with a picnic lunch at one of the beautiful picnic sites overlooking the flamingo filled lake. Later on in the evening enjoy a bush dinner.

Lake Nakuru National Park: Located 160km Northwest of Nairobi, is home to millions of fuchsia pink flamingoes, the fish eating pelicans as well as over 450 other species of birds. It is also a good location for game viewing, including the black rhino, the lion, and the waterbuck as well as other antelopes. It is one of the best places to see the leopard as well as the endangered Rothschild Giraffes. The national park was gazetted to protect the flamingoes and also provide sanctuary to endangered species like the rhino. Although the main attraction to the park is the pink flamingos, a visitor will also get to see plenty of giraffes, waterbucks and other game. Dinner and overnight at Lake Nakuru Lion Hill's lodge or similar.

Day 7: Nakuru - Nairobi - Departure
Pre-breakfast morning game drive, and then proceed to the lake where you have the chance to see the thousands of flamingos and many more species of birds. Then proceed to Nairobi, drop off at your city hotel.
