4 Days-3 Nights - Kisumu City and lake Victoria Region Pro-Poor Tourism package

Highlights: This is a four days tour that takes you to the poor people in Kisumu City and within and around Lake Victoria region from Kisumu city or Kisumu international Airport. You will start this tour from Nairobi's Jomo Kenyatta International Airport to Kisumu International Airport or from your hotel or residence within the Kisumu city and proceed to the various Slums and proceed to the famous Yala Swamp’s Dominion Farm to witness the economic impact this farm has contributed in alleviating poverty within the rural set up in Alego Siaya by creating jobs by developing a modern farm in the centre of a formerly poverty stricken area, thanks to the owner and investor – Calvin Burgess, as per the itinerary below:

Itinerary:

Day I: Kisumu - Nyalenda slum and Manyatta Slum Tour:

Upon arrival at Kisumu International Airport, you will be met by our tour manager who will take you to your hotel for a check in. After which you will be taken for a brief tour of Kisumu city before heading to the sprawling Nyalenda Slum. This is the largest slum in Kisumu city with a population of about 2000 inhabitants. You will see the type of housing and visit the local VCT center then proceed to visit the HIV orphaned children center in Dunga before meeting the fish mongers and fishermen of Dunga beach. Lunch at Kiboko bay tented Lodge. After lunch go ahead to Manyatta estate then to Kondele area where you will meet the street children's Orphan homes and the local residents. Return for dinner and overnight stay at your hotel in Kisumu city.

Day 2: Kisumu - Obunga slum and Kisumu Rural lakeshore Tour:

After breakfast, you will be driven to Obunga estate where you will meet the Local resident councilor and have a tour of the slum poverty eradication activities which include the roadside businesses, the children's homes, the single mothers associations, the self help groups and the women groups. Lunch will be at Mamba Hotel in Kisumu city which is famous for its charcoal roasted chicken. Proceed after Lunch to Seme Kaloka where you will be taken the local homesteads and then to the beaches to see how poverty can devastate the villages. You return back to your hotel in Kisumu for dinner and overnight.

Day 3:Kisumu - Siaya - Dominion Farm Tour:

After breakfast, you will be taken for a tour of Siaya district past the Equator - Line at Maseno. Here you will be taken to the local peasants' homesteads in Alego / Usonga Constituency - Siaya to witness the poverty levels in the constituency before proceeding to the famous Dominion Farm. At this farm, you will witness the impact; the creation of the farm has done in the improvement of alleviation of poverty levels in Siaya and Bondo districts by creating employment and infrastructure. Meet the local Community leaders and the farm workers and hear their testimonies. You then travel back to Kisumu city to end the tour. Lunch is taken in the homesteads.

"Calvin Burgess, the owner of Dominion farm said this when he first toured Yala swamp in Siaya "It takes courage to leave the comforts of our developed economies and our homes to be pioneers in rural Africa, but that is the best means of doing well by doing good," Burgess isn't critical of the missionaries and medical teams that have traveled to Africa for the past several decades but he thinks business may be the better answer to the continents continued woes.

"This is putting your money where your mouth is," Burgess said. "Most of the rest of what you hear is just talk. This is what Kenya needs.... they need the same thing we need here, that is economic development, they need jobs, and they need net wealth. Charity is a curse to them in my opinion. It doesn't work; it makes them dependent to where they can't support themselves. And it needs to end." Burgess said.

Return to Kisumu city for dinner and overnight stay at your hotel in Kisumu city.

Day 4:Kisumu-Nairobi-Departure:

After breakfast you will depart for Nairobi where you will reach at the Jommo Kenyatta International Airport for your flight to your next destination.

End of Tour.
