3 Days Mt. Kenya National Park Exciting Getaway Safari

Highlights

This is an exciting safari which will take you to visit Mt. Kenya National Park, which is home to the highest mountain in Kenya. In this park you will spot many animals such as the elephant, buffalo, baboon and other animal species which are unique to this area. You will travel with our experienced tour guide/driver in a safari minivan and spend the nights in a luxurious lodge.

Itinerary

Mt KenyaDay 1: Nairobi – Mt. Kenya National Park
In the morning at 7.00am you will be met at your residence and be warmly received by the driver/guide or Tour Manager who will brief you on your Safari and escort you to your safari vehicle for departure to Mt. Kenya. You will drive through rolling agricultural land and arrive in time for lunch at the lodge. After lunch, you will have the afternoon at leisure as you watch animals gather by the watering hole located at your lodge. If you wish, a game drive can also be arranged.

Mt. Kenya is the largest mountain in Kenya and is a dome-shaped central volcano.  Several types of volcanic rocks make up the mountain.  There are ten glaciers covering the volcano peaks. The National Park around Mt Kenya is very different from all others. For one thing, the protected area only starts at a height of 3,300meters above sea level and because of the rough mountain country is unsuitable for a motor safari. Although many animals live here (e.g. Elephants, Buffaloes) you do not see many of them except at the water hole by the "mountain lodge" where particularly at night many animals can be observed. The unique vegetation and fantastic scenery attract mountaineers and botanists who can plunge through mountain forests draped with lianas, bamboo and fields of giant heather before coming to the Alpine moorland, bizarre volcanic formations and finally, the eternal ice and glaziers of the summit region.

Lunch, dinner and overnight at Serena Mountain Lodge

Day 2: Mt. Kenya National Park
You will spend the full day viewing wildlife and birding within this pristine wilderness. You will have lunch at the lodge. You may also choose to participate in some lodge activities which are available such as swimming, playing in-door games or just relaxing in your room or in the beautifully manicured lawns of the lodge.

The local communities surrounding Mount Kenya are mainly the Gikuyu, Meru, and Embu. The Gikuyu communities believe that their God lived on Mount Kenya when he came down from the sky. That mountain was God's throne on earth.  Mt. Kenya dominates the southern and western sides of the mountain where agriculturalists are highly favored by the fertile volcanic soil on the lower slopes. The Meru communities dominate the East and North of the Mountain, and are known to keep livestock. The Embu people, like the Gikuyu believe that the mountain is the home of their God and they therefore dominate the windward side of the Mountain. Because of this, all the communities around the region believe that Mount Kenya is Sacred.
