The Ewaso Nyiro River, which is the boundary with the neighboring Buffalo Springs National Reserve, is where the elephant buffalo and other animal species gather for a drink. Rhinos are no longer present in the park due to heavy poaching. Day 5: Samburu National Reserve – Mt. Kenya National Park
Enjoy an early morning pre breakfast game driver for a chance to spot the animals when they are most active before sunrise. After breakfast you will depart Samburu National Reserve for Mt. Kenya National Park arriving in time for lunch at the lodge or camp. After lunch and rest, you will set out to explore the pristine wilderness, lakes, tarns, glaciers and peaks of Mount Kenya. You will be able to view some of the rare and endangered species of animals and some species of endemic plants.  These are of great beauty and are the major attractive features of the region.  On a very clear day, mountain climbers on top of Mount Kenya are able to see Mount Kilimanjaro to the south, Mount Elgon to the west, Marissa Mountain to the north and the Indian Ocean to the east.

The local communities surrounding Mount Kenya are mainly the Kikuyu, Meru, and Embu. The Kikuyu communities believe that their God lived on Mount Kenya when he came down from the sky. That mountain was God's throne on earth.  Mt. Kenya dominates the southern and western sides of the mountain where agriculturalists are highly favored by the fertile volcanic soil on the lower slopes. The Meru communities dominate the East and North of the Mountain, and are known to keep livestock. The Embu people, like the Kikuyu believe that the mountain is the home of their God and they therefore dominate the windward side of the Mountain. Because of this, all the communities around the region believe that Mount Kenya is Sacred.

Day 6: Mt. Kenya National Park – Nairobi
After breakfast, check out of the lodge and depart to Nairobi arriving in time for lunch at the famous Carnivore Restaurant. After lunch, be treated to a complimentary tour of Nairobi city excursion before being transferred to a hotel for rest, dinner and overnight.

Mt. Kenya is the largest mountain in Kenya and is a dome-shaped central volcano.  Several types of volcanic rocks make up the mountain.  There are ten glaciers covering the volcano peaks. The National Park around Mt Kenya is very different from all others. For one thing, the protected area only starts at a height of 3,300meters above sea level and because of the rough mountain country is unsuitable for a motor safari. Although many animals live here (e.g. Elephants, Buffaloes) you do not see many of them except at the water hole by the "mountain lodge" where particularly at night many animals can be observed. The unique vegetation and fantastic scenery attract mountaineers and botanists who can plunge through mountain forests draped with lianas, bamboo and fields of giant heather before coming to the Alpine moorland, bizarre volcanic formations and finally, the eternal ice and glaziers of the summit region.
